A colorful addition to the library falls to vandalism

A Charles Town Library volunteer’s colorful presentation of plants and flowers were destroyed recently, but Terry Lincoln remains proud of her efforts.

“That’s crazy, what happened,” said Terry of the recent overnight incident that left a large urn shattered on the front steps of the library. “It’s quite disturbing. It’s a shame you can’t have beauty undisturbed.”

Terry, a long-time patron of the library, has recently been honing her gardening skills. And all summer, the plants flourished under her care until vandalism struck. Invited to join the Dolley Madison Garden Club, Terry decided to make the two large planters beside the library’s front steps her personal project.

Terry’s attraction to gardening is an offshoot of her other creative works, such as creating mosaics on bricks and paving stones, and quilting. She also sells some of her creations on Etsy.

“I just like pretty things,” Terry said.

After she joined the garden club, Terry said she learned much about the plants and other benefits. “It’s very relaxing and the women of the garden club are so inspiring.”

Marcella Genz, the library’s director, is considering options on how to replace the large, shattered planter. Suggestions are welcome and can be sent to director@ctlibrary.org.
