Shiloh is on the farm!

Click, Clack, MOO: Cows That Type

By Doreen Cronin

Illustrated by Betsy Lewin

Shiloh’s Rating: Four paws

To start off, this book is not about a dog, but I can overlook that because it does have cows, and I do love dairy, and besides: the cows type! As your trusty review-writing library dog who must rely on my human to type these out, I have to admire animals who can type for themselves! You go cows!

First off, I love Betsy Lewin’s illustrations. They’re fun and expressive, even if you can’t see the colors (like I can’t) and I love the watercolors. It’d be fun to try painting like that at home!

No dogs, but still a good book.

Now onto the story.Click, Clack Moo: Cows That Type is about Farmer Brown, who has a nice farm with all sorts of animals -I even spotted a dog! That’s how you know a farm is good. The cows make milk and the chickens lay eggs, until one day the cows find a typewriter. They demand electric blankets, and when Farmer Brown says no, they go on strike! Even the chickens!

Don’t worry though, it’s a happy ending. Spoiler alert, the cows and chickens get their blankets, and Farmer Brown gets his milk and eggs. I give this book four paws for my cow friends -we animals have to stick together! Next time, I think Doreen Cronin should write about a dog that types, starring yours truly! Lucky for us, she’s got a lot of other books about all sorts of animals -including dogs- that you can find right here at Charles Town Library!

Parents: Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type is a great book for early readers but is also enjoyable for younger kids too. The story is fun to read and easy to follow; Doreen Cronin has written several other books for early readers, including Duck for President and Diary of a Worm. She’s also written books for older kids, including a series about a dog called the J. J. Tully Mystery series. The series and several more of her books are available on Hoopla and can be found in our catalog.
