Library Update: March 23, 2020

The Charles Town Library ceases services temporarily,
following the guidelines of the Governor’s Order

Following the release of West Virginia Governor Jim Justice’s order of March 23, setting guidelines for the operation of essential organizations and businesses, the Charles Town Library will cease accepting book holds and fulfillment of holds, and will not accept book returns at our building, 200 E. Washington St.

This change will take effect, Noon, March 24, 2020. Any active holds can be picked up curbside until 3 p.m., Tuesday.

During this time of reduced services:

  • Our popular Story Time events with Miss Debbie and Mr. Tim will continue live-streamed on Facebook when possible. Please check our website (www.ctlibrary.org) and our Facebook page for updates.
  • Remember that we are a fine-free library. There is no penalty for returning items beyond their due date.

We will continue to watch current developments in the state and region, as well as local organizations, including Jefferson County Public Schools, to determine the appropriate time to reopen our doors to the public.

  1. On the Jefferson County School website says that the Charles Town Library is allowing holds to be placed and books to be picked up by calling the library when you arrive. Is this true or is this old information that is still posted? Thank you!

    • Hi, you are correct, this is old information. We have put all of our services on hold for the time being. We will post on our website and Facebook when we restart our hold and check-out procedures. Thank you for asking.

  2. The notification system is automated and continues to send notices. If you are able to drop the items in the slot at the front of the library, someone will process them. But also, if you would rather drop them off in person when we reopen, that is acceptable as well. As you know, we are a fine-free library and if there are any charges added to your account if the system assumes it is a lost book, then those charges will be removed when you bring in the item.

  3. I am getting late notices for returning my books and tapes yet I see you are not accepting returns at this time. Please clarify. Thanks
