Charles Town Library’s Summer Reading Schedule

For Children Up Through 2nd Grade

Story Time – Every Monday @ 10:30 and every Thursday @ 4:00

Saturday Story Time & Crafts @ 10:00: 

June 8 – Launch Day! Get an early start on Summer Reading!  We will be coloring table covers and everyone will get a paint sheet with our theme, “A Universe of Stories.”  You also get a head start on your reading logs. 

June 29 – Here Comes the Sun!  Show a little love for our nearest star and create a Cyanotype or ‘Sun Picture”

July 13 – To the Milky Way and Beyond!  Explore beyond our galaxy and create your own constellation.

For Children Ages 6 – 12

Wednesday Programs @ 2:00

June 26 – Learn about scientist Anna Atkins and how the sun helped her share her scientific work with the world!  You can try your hand at recreating Anna’s experiment.

July 10 – What’s out there?  Join us as we read “Just Right: Searching for the Goldilocks Planet” by Curtis Manley.  Art and imagination will take us to other worlds.

July 31Maryland Science Center will bring their portable planetarium to present their Starlab program.  This is a ticketed event and children must be K – 6th grade to attend. Multiple shows will take place from 11:00 am to the early afternoon. To earn a ticket, you need to turn in a completed (5 out of 7 days at your reading goal) reading log.  There are 150 tickets available on a first come-first served basis.

Logged reading begins on June 9th and ends August 3rd!

July 20 @ 10:00 am 50th Anniversary of the Lunar Landing:  Join us for a celebration of the first moon landing.  Experiments and cookies will help us learn some facts about our nearest celestial neighbor.

August 3 @ 10:00 amSummer Reading Celebration:  We’ll end the summer with refreshments and games!  Readers who have turned in at least 5 completed reading logs by July 27 will receive their certificates. 

Reading lets you explore our Earth and the universe beyond.
