Join us for a fun, competitive, & positively spooky Teen Poetry Slam!
WHERE: Charles Town Library
WHEN: October 20 at 7pm
WHO: Any students grades 6+
WHAT: In a slam, students compete by reading poetry in a practice called “spoken word.” Participants can read their own poetry and written work, their favorite poems, song lyrics, monologues, hip-hop, anything! Just make sure the focus is ghostly or ghastly.
HOW: You can slam in so many different ways! You can be theatrical, use rhythm and rhyme, powerful pauses, rise & fall, tone of voice, beats, hand motions, movement, etc. Be creative! It will help you win points and the audience will love it.
REGISTER: Please email firstname.lastname@example.org, or stop by the library. Tell us your name, age, grade, what you’ll read & provide a copy of it. Each student will have 3 minutes to perform. Up to 20 teens can sign up.
JUDGES: Three local poets will judge the contest and choose a winner based on content, performance, and audience reaction. One grand prize winner will receive a $50 visa gift card!
Don’t want to read? Come hear your friends and show support! Get a group together & cheer on your poet from the sidelines. We’ll have free pizza & soda!
